About Us

We are an architectural practice based in The Lake District and London with extensive experience of designing traditional and contemporary buildings. Since our formation in 1946, we have designed numerous projects in the Residential, Heritage, Commerical and Education sectors, which have received a number of awards and commendations.

We have offices in Kendal & London, which allows us to exercise our passion to create distinct, beautifully crafted buildings in the town and countryside. Building on over 70 years of experience we are dedicated to rejuvenating and developing buildings within in their natural surroundings. Whether working on restorations or new buildings; our creativity, experience and knowledge of materials enables us to produce something special that adds value and exceeds expectations.

History

From the founding of Haigh Architects by E Donald Haigh in 1946, the partnership developed by Joan Haigh and Michael Bottomley until Roger Haigh took sole charge in 2000. The focus of the well-established practice has always been on the quality of design, meeting the needs of clients, particularly for buildings in historic and in sensitive settings, and creating inspiring spaces. We thoroughly enjoyed working with Haigh Architects on an ambitious project to restore and renovate our beautiful Georgian house

The Library sits behind the quiet façade of a typical Cumbrian house - so it surprises people when they enter; their reaction is almost inevitably, ‘Wow!’

Haigh Architects’ approach to the renovation made the building comfortable for modern living, while restoring its rustic charm and ensuring its long-term viability

Quality execution and attention to bespoke detail exemplify the determination to succeed in creating a splendid living space comfortable with its origins

When we thought the design may have to be compromised, Haigh Architects came up with an alternative option that really worked

A barn conversion that manages to avoid turning another piece of the Lake District into a suburban Disneyland of fantasy farms
